Costa Rei
Costa ReiCosta Rei is a wonderful seaside resort located along the south-eastern part of Sardinia and quite close to Muravera. Costa Rei is well known for its beautiful fine, white sand beach, about 8 km. long. Its incredibly clean and transparent waters bring plenty of tourists in the summer. Costa Rei's beach is also a sought-after destination for diving and windsurfing lovers, since the wind constantly blows here. You can also go on horseback excursions to the surrounding countryside. Other tourist locations to be mentioned are Cala Sinzias and Capo Ferrato, for their long beaches with reefs, islets and bays. In particular Capo Ferrato's promontory is characterised by dark volcanic rocks and also by sandy beaches. From here it's possible to see Serpentara island off in the distance and further off, the smaller Cavoli island. Other sought-after beaches are Cala Pira, a small inlet with rocky reefs, and Porto Pirastu, another promontory of rock-like reefs with a big, surrounding pine forest. But Costa Rei is not just sea and beaches. There is numerous archaeological evidence of human presence in past times, such as the megalithic complex of "Piscina Rei" that dates back to the Neolithic period. It still has 22 menhirs standing in their original, vertical position and indicating the sunrise and the sunset and the consequent beneficial effects. Another important settlement is "Nuraghe Scalas", the best-kept in all of Sardinia. It too has 42 menhirs, 2 of which have an anthropomorphic shape.
